Getting started

Introduction

Clerq is the open-source, self-hostable back office for developer-freelancers and small studios. Pick a path to get started.

Why Clerq is different

Most back-office tools are closed SaaS silos that rent you access to your own data. Clerq takes the opposite approach:

  • Open source and self-hostable - run it on your own server and own your data outright, or let us host it free. Nothing locks you in: export every client, invoice and expense as one portable file whenever you like.
  • One connected flow - clients, projects, time, invoices and expenses share a single record, so tracked time rolls straight into an invoice with nothing re-keyed between four separate apps.
  • Built for your AI assistant - an OAuth-secured MCP server exposes 61 tools, so an assistant like Claude can run the back office for you: log time, raise invoices from unbilled hours, and chase what's overdue.
  • The details done right - integer money math, multi-currency with live FX, and correct VAT treatments, so your totals are exact and you can send with confidence.

Two ways to run Clerq

Both options are the same product, with nothing held back.

  • Clerq Cloud - we host it for you, free during beta. Sign up and start in seconds.
  • Self-host - run it on your own server with Docker. Your data, your infrastructure - up in about a minute with Docker Compose.

Either way your data stays yours: any owner can export the whole business - clients, time, invoices, expenses and all - as one portable file, whenever they like.

New here? Head to Self-hosting -> Docker compose to get a local instance running in about a minute.
